Village Deli is my go-to place when people come to visit me in Bloomington. I've been here several times and have yet to have a bad experience.
Almost each time I've gone, it has been a Saturday or Sunday brunch rush. I never think the wait is terribly unreasonable, but I also consider myself a patient person when it comes to restaurants, so you might have to judge wait times for yourself. I've always been seated within 10 minutes, and if they're slammed and your estimated wait is around 15 minutes, they usually give you a nice coupon for BOGO free certain beverages at a local coffee shop just across the street. However, others around me have mentioned that they had been waiting awhile, so I think the wait is a bit long during their rush hours.
The restaurant is famous for its gigantic pancakes, which are amazing. I eat a lot of breakfast foods, and these are my favorite pancakes I've ever had. They have lots of menu items, but not so much that it's overwhelming. Very typical breakfast and lunch diner, but I love the food. It's all pretty reasonably priced for a sit-down diner and you get a good amount. I always end up thinking I'll eat everything but I have never been right about that so far. Their sausage patties are my favorite and they have a great veggie burger.
You can't go wrong at Village Deli! -

Solid breakfast, fast service. Large portions, reasonable prices. Nothing stood out flavor Wise, but you could do worse.

The food here is average at best. The management is horrible and when told that our table was ready two of the people in our party were around the corner and we communicated that and she told us to come in when everyone was here. 2 minutes later we come in, and they say they gave our table away. The manager is rude and the staff is clueless.
I would recommend any other breakfast place in Bloomington. Unfortunately there aren't many options. Maybe pick up some groceries and cook breakfast instead. -

Village Deli is an IU student's staple. The food is cheap and the portions are big. The service is fast, but there is always a line on the weekend- so go early or be prepared to wait. The location is great, near Sample Gates on Kirkwood where there are plenty of shops to check out during a long wait.
It has a college town feel, so the food is not necessarily anything spectacular. The power breakfast is the best deal. It comes with home fries, two eggs, a drink, and a huge pancake. My friends and I usually order one power breakfast and one plate of just home fries and eggs so we can share the pancake which is a must have. The coffee is always hot and constantly refilled so I make sure to tip the hard working students well regardless of the wait. -

Wed. Aug. 31: Very disappointed! Waited 20-30 min. for 2 sandwiches! The server was a pleasant young woman, but she gave no explanation as to why our lunch was taking so long, gave no apology when it was finally served and didn't even refill our water. There were only 10 customers in the place at 1:30. Once my wife complained, the food came out along with the food of all the other customers who came in after us.
We won't be back.
